Byron’s Smokehouse
Byron’s Smokehouse on Opelika Road is a top spot for locals in the Auburn area. It’s been open since 1989, and they serve breakfast, lunch, and dinner. It’s known for its chipped pork, which is a unique menu item you don’t see on every BBQ menu, and it’s also known for its Brunswick stew. Byron’s is an Auburn landmark with a warm, family-like atmosphere and a friendly staff.
Stop in for breakfast and get delicious biscuits and gravy, or go in for lunch and feast on the famous BBQ. In addition to the chipped pork, you can get sliced pork, ham or turkey, sausage, chicken, and ribs. The sides range from baked beans to turnip greens, fried okra, coleslaw, green beans, fried potatoes, and more. If you like your BBQ in a sandwich, you can get pork chipped, sliced, or chopped on a block or get the chicken, sausage, or smoked turkey.
Bow & Arrow
Bow & Arrow’s owner is a James Beard award winner and Food Network “Iron Chef Showdown” winner. Bancroft opened Bow & Arrow in 2017, serving up South Texas-style slow-cooked meats in a variety of dishes and with traditional Southern and Tex-Mex sides.
The BBQ plates include sliced brisket, St. Louis ribs, smoked turkey, and pulled pork to start. These all come with two sides, pickles, sauce, and sliced bread. The pulled pork sandwich is always a good choice. It comes with jalapeño pickles, mustard BBQ sauce, and fries. Make sure to try the smoked brisket melt. This sandwich has melted cheese, crispy hash browns, jalapeños, pickles, and white BBQ sauce. It comes on sourdough toast and is served with fries.
Bow & Arrow makes all the sides to go with your barbecued meat with fresh ingredients and from scratch. You can choose from green beans, mac and cheese, hash brown casserole, brisket beans, and sweet corn rice.
Butcher Paper BBQ

The BBQ at Butcher Paper BBQ starts with a homemade smoker that uses propane tanks. It didn’t take long for owner Mark Crowell to make a name for himself as the BBQ master in the Opelika area. In 2017 he opened the Butcher Paper mobile food unit, catering to a wide variety of events, and then a year later, he opened the brick-and-mortar restaurant at its current location on Columbus Parkway in Opelika.
Fill up on a delicious BBQ plate piled high with pulled pork, chicken, jumbo wings, ribs, brisket, or smoked sausage. Choose your favorite sauce with the original sweet tomato-based BBQ sauce, mustard sauce, spicy but not too spicy BBQ sauce, or white sauce to choose from.
The plates also come with two sides. Make sure to try the smoked mac and cheese made using their own unique recipe with three different kinds of cheese. It’s cooked on the smoker to give it a smokey flavor. Other sides include BBQ beans, coleslaw, potato salad, collard greens, Brunswick stew, and banana pudding. This Southern classic’s made with fresh bananas, vanilla wafers, and fresh whipped cream.
Country’s BBQ
Country’s BBQ is the perfect spot for traditional Southern BBQ in a warm and family-oriented atmosphere. The first Country’s BBQ opened in 1975 in Columbus, Georgia, and you’ll now find them right in Auburn. While there are many delicious options on the menu, make sure to get the Brunswick stew that takes two entire days to brew.
You can get all your favorites at Country’s BBQ, starting with the barbecue pork platter with either sliced or chopped pork, a choice of light bread, cornbread, or French bread, and two sides. You can also get a smoked turkey platter or choose from ribs, Texas beef brisket, barbecue chicken, pork tenderloin, or smoked ham.
The sandwiches are a great choice at this place. The brisket sandwich has the slow-smoked brisket on a large, seeded bun with the shop sauce and a choice of fries, coleslaw, or baked beans. The pork tenderloin sandwich is also delicious. It has the smoked tenderloin on French bread with medium sauce, mayo, BBQ onions, and pickles.
