Both the 2023 Hyundai Tucson and the Toyota RAV4 offer affordable entry-level trims for drivers in Auburn, Alabama. If you’re on a budget, though, you’ll likely prefer the Tucson. This SUV has a starting MSRP of $26,700 for the base trim. In comparison, the Toyota RAV4 has a starting MSRP of $27,975. Like the Tucson, the entry-level RAV4 offers many desirable features, including wireless phone compatibility.

Trim Levels

You’ll have your pick of trims whether you choose the Hyundai Tucson or the Toyota RAV4. The Hyundai SUV comes in 10 trims, including gas, hybrid, and plug-in hybrid variants. Different trims offer various benefits for Auburn-area drivers. For example, the rugged Tucson XRT is off-road ready for driving enthusiasts, while the Limited trims offer exclusive luxury features to elevate your drive.

The Toyota RAV4 comes in 13 different trims, and like the Tucson, it’s available with both gas and hybrid powertrains. The RAV4 TRD Off-Road is ready to hit the trails, and the top-level RAV4 Limited trims offer features not found on other models in the lineup.

Engine Specs

A standard 2.5-liter four-cylinder engine powers the 2023 Hyundai Tucson, generating 187 horsepower and 178 lb-ft of torque. This engine pairs with an eight-speed automatic transmission and standard front-wheel drive or optional all-wheel drive. The Tucson hybrid and plug-in hybrid models come equipped with a 1.6-liter four-cylinder turbocharged engine and an electric motor. The hybrid system produces 226 combined horsepower in the Tucson Hybrid, and that number jumps to 261 horsepower in the Tucson Plug-In Hybrid. Both the hybrid and plug-in hybrid versions come with a six-speed automatic transmission and standard all-wheel drive for ultimate traction on Auburn-area roadways.

In the 2023 Toyota RAV4, you’ll find a 2.5-liter four-cylinder engine that produces 203 horsepower and 184 lb-ft of torque. The engine mates with an eight-speed automatic transmission. Like the Tucson, front-wheel drive comes standard and all-wheel drive is optional. The RAV4 hybrid powertrain features a 2.5-liter four-cylinder engine and two electric motors, producing 219 combined net horsepower. An electronic continuously variable transmission and all-wheel drive come standard in the hybrid models.

Towing Capacity

When you want to tow your jet ski, motorcycle, or small trailer to your destination, you can trust the Hyundai Tucson to handle the job. With trailer brakes, the Tucson has a towing capacity of up to 2,000 pounds across the lineup. That’s more than the standard 1,500-pound towing capacity in the Toyota RAV4. However, you can upgrade the towing capacity in the RAV4 by choosing a higher trim, like the Adventure or TRD Off-Road, which can handle up to 3,500 pounds.

Cargo Space

Both the 2023 Tucson and the RAV4 offer generous interior cabins with seating for five, but you’ll have a bit more cargo space in the Hyundai SUV. The Tucson offers up to 80.3 cubic feet of cargo volume with the rear seats flat, allowing you to stow luggage, equipment, or boxes with ease. In comparison, the Toyota RAV4 has up to 69.8 cubic feet of cargo volume with the back seats down.

Interior Space

When you ride in the 2023 Hyundai Tucson, you’ll enjoy a range of features to make your drive more comfortable. Cloth seats come standard, while some models feature H-Tex or premium leather-trimmed upholstery. Besides the Tucson SE, every trim comes with heated front seats, keeping you warm and toasty on chilly days. Some Tucson trims also offer heated rear seats and ventilated front seats for ultimate comfort, no matter the weather.

The 2023 Toyota RAV4 also comes standard with fabric-trimmed seats, with available SofTex-trimmed seats for an upgraded appearance. Beginning with the RAV4 XLE, heated front seats are available, but you can only get heated rear seats as part of a package on upper trims for an additional cost.

Exterior Design

The 2023 Hyundai Tucson offers function and versatility in a stylish package, with modern lines and a bold frame. With striking exterior features, like LED headlights and a rear spoiler, the Tucson allows you to stand out from other drivers on the eastern Alabama roadways. The SUV rides on 17-inch alloy wheels, though upper trims come with larger 19-inch wheels. Every Hyundai Tucson has automatic headlights with high-beam assist and LED daytime running lights.

The Toyota RAV4 is also an attractive SUV, featuring a sporty design with muscular fenders and an integrated rear spoiler. Like the Tucson, the RAV4 comes standard with 17-inch wheels, with 18- or 19-inch wheels available for some trims. The RAV4 also has LED headlights, taillights, and daytime running lights.

Entertainment and Technology

You can’t beat the technology and entertainment features inside the 2023 Hyundai Tucson. The SUV comes with a standard 8-inch touch screen with wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto integration to connect your phone without a cord. Some trims come with a larger 10.25-inch touch screen with built-in navigation. The Tucson comes with front dual USB ports, and most models have additional ports in the back seat and a wireless charging pad.

Inside the 2023 Toyota RAV4, you’ll get an 8-inch touch screen with wireless smartphone integration. Upper trims feature a larger 10.5-inch screen in the center console. Three USB ports in the front storage tray and center console come standard in the RAV4. Wireless smartphone charging is only available in upper trims with an optional package.
